What is the CCSL?

The CCSL is a playing circuit that includes all of District 7; Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties. Teams from Kern County and the western portion of District 4 are also eligible to join the league.

Who can play in the CCSL ?

The CCSL is open to boys and girls competitive club teams from U10-U19. The teams register through a local registrar with Cal South, the parent organization. The individual teams or clubs register to play a fall league season with the CCSL. In addition, many teams play an extensive tournament schedule.

What are the benefits of playing in the CCSL?

The overriding goal of the CCSL is to provide a high quality playing circuit, without requiring families to make an unreasonable commitment of time and money each weekend. There are four major benefits that we provide our member teams which we believe makes our league the best to play for in Cal South. Those benefits are:

  • Reasonable travel requirements
  • Friday Night and Saturday games
  • Competitive Teams
  • Lower costs than other leagues.

Reasonable travel requirements

The driving distance from one edge of the CCSL playing area to the other can be three hours long. The league has made a commitment to maximize the experience of its players by scheduling double-headers on “away” games that require a drive of one and a half hours or more. In addition, the league will not schedule a team for more than four “long” road trips per season (out of a 10 week season). Given the home and away nature of the season, the CCSL will be able to offer more than 10 games for each team in a 10 week season. That is a great value, as well as a great competitive experience.

Saturday only games

Our plan is to play all of the games on Friday nights and Saturdays. Our goal is to provide top level competitive soccer, but not at the expense of the rest of the family’s life. Our league covers a lot of territory and it makes sense that when teams travel a long distance, we enable them to play two games. If we play on Friday night, those games will be against local opponents, and on those longer travel days, games will only be played on Saturdays.

Competitive Teams

The area covered by the CCSL playing circuit is home to a great number of top quality teams and clubs. The league will not be built on a bronze, silver, gold, premier system, but instead teams will be assigned to play in a division/bracket with similarly skilled teams. That skill level will be assessed each year. We do not believe in a team having to “pay their dues” and progress through all of the skill levels to play at the highest level. If your team is at the highest level in the first year, that is where your team will play.

Lower costs than other leagues

Our league fees for 2007 are $125/team with an additional $150 bond. The league fees cover the organization, administration and promotion of the league. The bond is held to cover referee fees when a team fails to show up to play. At the end of each season that bond, assuming there are no charges against it will either be refunded or rolled over to the following year at your request.

The fees do not cover:

  • Referee fees for league games. The total cost of the ref fees is split between the two teams playing the game.
  • Field fees for games. City’s and park and recreation departments generally provide field use for free for youth games.

How far will we travel?

The league ranges from Paso Robles in the north to the southern Ventura county line, and potentially past Bakersfield to the eastern edge of Kern County. In theory, the farthest you would have to travel would be about a three hour drive. Our goal however, is to have the teams who are far away try and play closer to the middle where possible so that the driving time is actually seldom longer than two hours. The league will schedule teams so that you play two games on those days where there is a drive of that length.

How do I sign my team up?

Go to our online registration page and you can sign your team or club up today. Our league season will run from the Saturday after Labor Day through the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

What does my team need to provide to join the CCSL

You will need:

  • A team administrator registered with Cal South (head coach, assistant coach, manager ... etc)
  • 2008-09 season registration fee TBA
  • 2008-09 referee bond (TBA) This is refundable at the end of the season if no charges are made against the bond.
  • Access to a home field. Access means that you not only have a field where you play, but that you have a block of time that you control for home games so the league can schedule games. If you do not have access to a home field, your application to join may be denied if we do not have enough extra capacity to handle your games, or, you may be required to travel more, or for all of your games, since you do not have a home field.
